The Chicago Chapter of the American Recorder Society has started a small-scale Outreach Program whose intent is to promote and assist the teaching of the recorder in inner-city public elementary schools.
We can offer help to recorder playing teachers who wish to set up a program in their classroom. We can also assist those who need instruction or opportunities to improve their own playing before starting to teach others.
Learning to play the 16th, 8th, quarter and half notes translates directly into improved math and reading skills.
Attention spans are lengthened as longer pieces are learned.
If your school needs assistance, we would be able to help provide recorders, instruction books or desk stands.
If you would like to receive more information, please contact us at 773-363-7476. We can discuss with you whatever is best for your needs and your school situation.
The recorder is not just a pre-band instrument, but an authentic wind instrument in its own right, with its own history
The low cost and portability of the plastic soprano recorder make it an ideal instrument to introduce children to the discipline and beauty of playing music.
